Awana 2013-14

I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself–my name is Lisa Albert and I’m joining the team as Commander of the Awana Clubs here at First Baptist Church of Geneva.  I served in this role previously, so God nudged me to fill the huge vacancy left by Mike and Maya Johnson when they were called to a church in Nebraska, which Mike now pastors.  I want to thank them for all the work they did for Awana and for how easy they made it for me to step in and try to fill their shoes.

I can hardly believe that the new Awana year is almost here!  I am so excited to see what God has planned this year.  We’ll be starting on Wednesday night, September 11 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.  Registration will begin at 5:30 on September 11.  Pizza ($1/slice suggested donation) will also be available in the Fellowship Hall.

I’ve attached a link to the Awana Registration form for your convenience!!  To avoid the first night rush, feel free to bring your completed registrations to the church office between the hours of 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM, Monday-Friday.

I look forward to seeing you on September 11!!

Summer Bible Study Opportunities

bible-studySummer is a great time to study God’s Word, and at FBC Geneva there are plenty of opportunities to help you take your study to the next level! On Sunday mornings at 9AM, we have Bible Study classes for everyone, including:

1. The Seekers Class – a mixed adult Bible study class taught by Raymond Harrison. Raymond is kicking off a new study on 1 John.

2. The New Beginnings Class – a mixed adult Bible study class that I (Pastor Mike) teach. This Sunday, we are launching a new study on the Parables of Jesus.

3. The Joy Class – a Bible study for women led by Lauri Zeman, featuring great discussion and close-knit fellowship.

4. The Golden Circle Class – a Bible study for women, ages 55 and up, taught by Benna Boutty.

5. College & Career – an exciting class for college students and high school grads led by Jim and Jamie Milner.

All of the above classes meet in the Educational Building. There are also classes for youth and children of all ages (meeting in the Educational Building, the Sanctuary Building and the Youth Hall on the West side of 1st Street). Nursery care is provided during the Sunday Morning Bible Study time (9-10).

On Wednesday evenings at 6PM, we have two great opportunities:

1. Growing Together – a verse-by-verse study on the book of 1 Peter that Raymond Harrison and I are team-teaching. This is an adult study aimed at all maturity levels, and newcomers are totally welcome (and will be made to feel welcome).

2. Centershot Ministry – this is a unique opportunity for children (ages 5 and up) that Tony Duncan leads. Centershot combines archery instruction with Bible lessons. A safe indoor archery range, staffed by NASP-certified instructors, is set up in the Fellowship Hall. Parents and children can learn basic archery skills together. Centershot meets every other week throughout the summer (upcoming dates are: July 10, July 24, August 7 and August 21). This is offered completely free of charge and is a great opportunity to invite your friends and neighbors!

Let’s make the best use of our summer months by getting serious about studying God’s Word! For more information, feel free to call us (407-349-5411) or send us an email.

Share the Gospel

Dear Church Family,

I talked about our need to share the gospel last Sunday, and the subject is still on my mind. So, I want to write just a bit about it.

evangelism-fishIn John chapter one, we read in verses 3-5 “All things came into being by Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend (overpower) it.”

From these verse, I’m reminded that our duty is to dispel the darkness of the world we live in. People all around us are living in darkness and don’t know it.

As we think of our duty, let me give some things that I read this week as a reminder.

1. Hell will be a place of unquenchable fire.
2. Heaven is a place of holiness.
3. Hell will be a place of memory and remorse.
4. Heaven is a place of beauty.
5. Hell will be a place of thirst.
6. Heaven will be a place where we never thirst.
7. Heaven is a place of unity.
8. Hell will be place of misery and pain.
9. Heaven is a place of no sickness and pain.
10. Hell will be a place of frustration and anger.
11. Heaven is a place of joy.
12. Hell will be a place of separation.
13. Heaven is a place where all the saints will be.
14. Hell will be a place of undiluted divine wrath.
15. Heaven is a place of perfection.
16. Hell will be a place originally prepared for Satan and his host.
17. Heaven is a place shared by the holy angels.
18. Hell will be a place created for all eternity.
19. Heaven is a place that will last forever where God will be.
20. Heaven is a place where God’s glory will shine.

God’s desire is that we glorify Him and worship Him!

However, the lost can do neither!!!!!!!!!!

What are we prepared to do?

Vacation Bible School

Hello Church Family!

Vacation Bible School is almost here.  The adventure starts up at 9am on the June 9th.  Just 10 more days. We still need a few more volunteers.  VBS is Monday-Friday 9am-12:30 but if you can help anytime we can fit you in.

To teachers and other leaders: I will be placing our final order for shirts and other VBS related stuff, so if you want anything please let me know.

Parents: please register your children ASAP.  There are registration forms at church or download one by clicking here.

Please keep our VBS and the volunteers in your prayers and please be especially in prayer for the children.  We have children registered that are not from Christian families and VBS is a great opportunity for us to show the love of Christ.

Thank you

Win The Lost

Dear Church Family,

I want to say a few things about the main thing we are to do other than worship God. Win the lost!

The reason to be a soul winner is:

1. There is no other way and no other name given except Jesus. A part of Romans 10:14 helps us to remember what we are to do. “How then shall they call upon Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him whom they have heard?”

2. God did not just give us a suggestion; it is a command. Mt.28:18-20 “…Go therefore and make disciples…”

3. It is in our power to do it! Proverbs 3:27 “Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it.” If
salvation doesn’t fall under “good,” then nothing does.

4. Judgment is coming! 2Corinthians 5:11 “Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men…”

5. The responsibility is on us. Ezekiel 3:18-19 was not written to us, but we can apply it to this subject. “When I say to the wicked, ‘You shall surely die’; and you do not warn him or speak out to warn the wicked from his wicked way that he may live, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand. Yet if you have warned the wicked, and he does not turn from his wickedness or from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered yourself.” Now, remember I said this is for application. What we should learn from this is that God gives those that are His A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF RESPONSIBILITY. Use it wisely.

6. To be a soul winner we must have compassion. Jude 22 “And some have compassion, making a difference.” KJV

Some may say I don’t know how. Please don’t let that be an excuse. We all know how we got saved; just tell people what happened to you. Yes, we do need to know some Scripture, but I don’t think that is the real reason we don’t share the gospel with a lost and dying world.
